Partner Network Newsletter: February 2014

A Few Words from Kirk Botula

Thank you to all of you who took the time to submit feedback for the annual partner survey. We greatly appreciate it. In our first year, many of our strategic decisions were influenced by the results of last year’s survey. We expect this year’s input to be equally important.

The survey included a baseline “Net Promoter” assessment which returned encouraging results in that after only 12 months of operations we are performing at about the average across all business to business organizations benchmarked. That said, there is plenty of room for improvement. Some of the initiatives that we are undertaking to better serve our partners are covered in this month’s newsletter.

Please join us at one of this week’s CMMI Partner Webinars to learn about how your input is shaping the CMMI Institute strategy.

Get the full picture of the NPS survey responses below.

Thank you for your partnership.

Kind regards,

Kirk Botula, CEO
Clearmodel & CMMI Institute

Results of Partner NPS Survey

Thank you to everyone who took the time to submit feedback for the annual partner survey. We greatly appreciate it. In our first year, many of our strategic decisions were influenced by the results of last year’s survey. We expect this year’s input to be equally important.

This year’s survey included both the Partner Advisory Board’s (PAB’s) annual survey questions as well as a Net Promoter score (NPS) component. The NPS was analyzed by the CMMI Institute. The PAB’s annual face-to-face meetings in February were focused on analyzing the remainder of the survey and those findings will be provided later.

The NPS is a customer loyalty metric used to evaluate customer loyalty to a brand or company. The NPS questions from the annual Partner Survey were the following:

  1. On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 being the highest, how satisfied are you with the support provided by Clearmodel/CMMI Institute?
  2. Please provide the primary reason for your response.
  3. What would improve your experience with Clearmodel or CMMI Institute?

The survey was sent to 940 individuals, and we received 242 complete survey responses, a 26% response rate and a 5% increase from 2013. Responses came from 36 countries across the globe.

Partner Survey Respondent Map

Question 1. On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 being the highest, how satisfied are you with the support provided by Clearmodel/CMMI Institute?

Our Partner NPS is a +14. The illustration below explains this calculation. This score is about average for B2B organizations.

Partner NPS Calculation

Question 2. Please provide the primary reason for your response.

66% of respondents cited positive service as the primary reason for their score.

  • We are pleased by this and promise that we will continue to provide this same excellent service to all of our customers.

Question 3. What would improve your experience with Clearmodel/CMMI Institute?

65% of respondents suggested marketing and communications improvements, specifically improving partner communications and increasing market awareness for all products. Active initiatives targeted at improving these areas include:

Increase awareness

  • We have begun a public relations strategy to get CMMI press coverage to reach new audiences. Partners get press releases ahead of the wider world so that you can share them with your networks too. You received an email with the release on Monday, February 24.
  • We are looking for partners and your clients who can be interviewed by reporters in support of our press releases. These opportunities arise monthly and we want to develop a list of available interviewees. Responding to this opportunity will allow you and your clients’ visibility in various media around the world. Please email Katie Tarara at ktarara@cmmiinstitute.com to volunteer.
  • We are currently redesigning our website to better serve market needs.

Improve partner communications

  • We have improved the monthly Partner Network Newsletter to include quarterly project updates.
    • For a quick look at the release schedule for all of the projects, please click here.
  • We are providing monthly appraisal quality tips to help raise awareness and address issues we’re seeing in quality reviews.
  • We are providing quarterly partner webinars to ensure that partners are aware of strategic plans and projects.
  • In the coming months, we plan to send several additional communications regarding these findings from the Partner NPS, and the annual PAB survey’s findings.
  • In May, we will have the CMMI Partner Workshop and are building a program that addresses many of these key information needs.
  • The Partner NPS survey itself is another way by which we’re gathering feedback that enables us to make the right strategic decisions.

33% of respondents suggested improvements to our internal operations, specifically improving our processes, systems, and response times.

  • We are committed to making these operations function better for all partners. To that end, the following activities are under way:
    • Implementing CMMI for Services to improve internal operations
    • Defining client continuums, establishing service targets, and putting controls in place to ensure that we’re effectively serving our partners.
    • Improving our technology infrastructure to streamline processes and reporting and improve externally facing systems.

22% of respondents suggested product improvements, specifically a need to evolve the CMMI product suite.

  • We recognize the need to improve the products and are committed to making them better. Part of that commitment includes the following projects that were started mid-2013.
    • Agile profile
    • End-user credentials
    • Self-assessment tool
    • CMMI Next Generation Initiative

For more details on all of the projects underway or planned, please make sure to attend the webinar on Feb. 25 or Feb. 27.

We Need CMMI Sponsors for Press Inquiries

As we continue to build a regular pattern in our media strategy, we need senior executives who can speak to the value of CMMI for delivering business results. These opportunities arise monthly and we are developing a list of credible executives who can speak to the effective application of CMMI in elevating organizational performance. If you have clients who might be able to serve in this capacity and would be willing to share their successes and lessons learned with journalists, please let us know. Additionally, we are looking for partners to whom we can refer journalists when they are looking for an expert opinion about the CMMI and its application. Responding to this opportunity will allow you and your clients’ visibility in various media around the world. Please email Katie Tarara at ktarara@cmmiinstitute.com for more information and to volunteer.

We Need Input from Appraisers on Agile and CMMI

Eileen Forrester is leading our project to build an agile profile for CMMI, which will include a set of products for a number of users, including appraisers. CMMI users and appraisers have told us that they need more assistance when an appraisal of CMMI will be done in an agile context. The team would like your ideas about the state of the current appraisal practice when agile is the context, and any ideas about what appraisers need to be ready to appraise in an agile setting. This survey is anonymous, brief, and can be found here. Thanks for your help!

Partner Frequently Asked Questions

We hope that this new section of the newsletter will provide the answers to the most frequently asked questions that we’re seeing. We will evaluate whether to make this a permanent addition to the newsletter.

Clarification on Partner Agreements

We’ve received a number of questions from partners about the need to renew their partner agreements.

Even though we are happy to hear from you, we do not require that you verify your intention to continue the partner agreement each year. Continuation is assumed.

The Partner Agreements are in effect until either party decides to terminate the agreement. Invoices are issued for annual support and Web Services fees on the partner’s annual billing date (the anniversary date of the signed agreement).

We think the confusion may partly stem from the fact that most partners sponsor certified individuals, and those certifications do expire periodically. However, the validity dates of those certifications are not aligned with the partner’s agreement or billing dates in any way.

Partner Network Operational Outline

Based on feedback received at the 2013 TSP Symposium, we identified a need to present a clear picture of how the Partner Network and related functions are structured operationally. Hopefully the chart found here will help clarify. This chart will be posted on the Partner Network contact page for future reference.

Appraisal Quality Corner

Request for an Organization Name Change

We are providing guidance in the latest Quality Corner Discussion Topic will help to clarify when and how to request an organization name change on an appraisal result. Read the latest quality tip here.

Connecting Partner Needs with Partner Opportunities

We receive requests from partners, certified and candidate individuals, and end users looking for, or providing, opportunities related to the Partner Network. Opportunities include volunteer appraisal team members and team leaders, or end users looking for partners in their region for training or appraisal services.

We distribute these business opportunities to partners via the Partner Network group on LinkedIn, and include a list of any new opportunities in the monthly Partner Network Newsletter.

We encourage partners to review these opportunities and reach out if there is something of interest. Today, you may be helping someone else, and tomorrow someone else may be helping you.
